About CentacareCQ

CentacareCQ has an opportunity for a full-time Domestic Violence Counsellor - Crisis Support to join their dedicated Family and Community Support Services Team, based in Emerald.

Accommodation allowance of $150 per week. 

As a member of the Clinical & Social Services Team, Domestic Violence Counsellors are responsible for providing a range of domestic & family violence services to adults experiencing (or at risk of experiencing) domestic and family violence. Key tasks of this role include providing:

  • Therapeutic counselling services;
  • Psychoeducational services to individuals or groups;
  • Community education services;
  • Crisis responses including supporting clients to complete Domestic Violence Orders, housing and financial assistance agencies;
  • Implement service system activities to educate and build capacity of local community members to respond to domestic and family violence.

Domestic Violence Crisis Counsellors must ensure they provide services in accordance with relevant funding guidelines and standards, organizational policies and procedures and relevant Government Legislation.

Duties of the role include:

Mission, Vision and Values

  • Support a positive culture within the organisation in line with CentacareCQ mission, vision and values;
  • Participate actively in formation activities.

Day-to-Day Operations

  • Provide timely and quality risk assessment (including safety and support planning), information, support and specialist counselling to people, predominantly women, affected or at risk of being affected by domestic and family violence;
  • Develop, plan and implement psychoeducational programs to children and adults affected by domestic and family violence;
  • Implement client outcome measures in accordance with service guidelines, funding accountability and professional responsibilities;
  • Provide empowerment-based advocacy services to clients, undertake case monitoring and review and provide crisis responses as needed.

Network and Stakeholders

  • Network with other community agencies and stakeholders and provide appropriate client referrals as needed;
  • Contribution to effective and innovative service delivery models to increase client numbers;
  • Engage in integrated community responses to domestic and family violence;
  • Liaise effectively with appropriate crisis response service providers for referrals and networking purposes, including: police, DV Connect, Child Safety, Men’s Helpline and legal services.

Communication

  • Participate actively in team meetings.
